Great advice! It does take time and patience but it is worth it.

I too am a bargain hunter. I actually don’t look for them and never really PLAN to go shopping for clothes. I usually find my best buys while shopping for the kids or household necessities.

When it comes to clothes, if I have to spend over 20$ for something, I usually back down, unless of course we’re talking about a ski suit or something like that.

I happened to pass by a boutique in Carrefour Laval the other day while bringing my cell phone for repair and noticed they had a closing sale. I noticed this nice little dress for 5$ on the outside rack which paired with the right accessories could be worn sexy to go out or sporty on the weekend.

So, seeing as I was on my lunch hour, I had to act quick! I grabbed the dress and headed into the store to pay and of course the cash register is WAY at the other end. When I saw all the stuff at 5, 10, 15 and 20 $… my heart skipped a few beats. It was now or never. So 230$ later and 15 minutes late getting back to work, I had bought my ENTIRE summer wardrobe which had not been refreshed in over 2 years. When I left the store, I felt as if I had just won the lottery!

When shopping for clothes, I think it’s also important to take into account what you already own and try to buy things that can mix and match so that you can make a wider variety of styles. You often realise that some of the clothing that’s been hidden in the “I can’t remember the last time I wore this” space in the back of your closet can be refreshed and feel like new when paired with the right item or accessory.

I also think that we have to stop trying to impress with brand names. I mean most of the clothes have the tag on the inside so you can’t see it anyway. And me, I usually cut ALL tags off because they drive me crazy! I will admit to shopping at Zellers and Walmart and l’Aubainerie and I’ve ALWAYS been complemented on my attire. The compliments usually follow with a “Oh really?” when I say where I shopped.

It’s too bad I can’t post a picture up here because I bought an amazing black dress with chiffon on the bottom to go to Punta Cana this winter. It cost me a whopping 4$. Don’t know if this will work but here’s the link to it in my Facebook album: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/photo.php?pid=11400839&id=786215205&ref=fbx_album.

I think I’d love shopping with you! lol!

    • I like the way you think MJ!! We are very similar in our shopping mentality :) The link didn’t work but now I am dying to see that dress…gonna go check it out on you profile! Perhaps a shopping excursion may be in order…

  2. Hi C,
This is so true, I bought a pair of chisels (for woodwork)yesterday at a sale for less than half the price. My wife just loved a pair of heels, but they were damn expensive, at R800-00 for the pair she wasnt prepared to buy them. Eventually they came down to half price, (which in my opinion is still a hell of a lot of money for a pair of shoes,) but we bought them then, and she just loves them. They are the pair she wears in the pics I have on my post in “what my wife likes to wear” I have to admit, they are extremely sexy.

Thanks for visiting my site, glad you came over. Hope to see lots more of you.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    Colin.

Ps, I think the video idea works wonders.
