Scale: 1….You: 0

Scale: 1….You: 0

Mon: 135lbs

Tues: 137lbs

Tues night: 140lbs

Weds: 134lbs

Weds lunch: 136lbs

Weds night: 137.5lbs….

WHAT???

Scale: 1 – You: 0

How many times have you walked down this road?

Don’t lie to yourself. Don’t lie to me. I won’t lie to you.

I as much as you have been a victim of this process in the past. Even with the knowledge that I hold about all the things our weight reflects I still fell prey to the “how much do I weight today” syndrome.

My first competition I admit to having weighed myself regularly because it was fun to watch the numbers move around. Post competition as the number started to move the other way the fun simmered down a little bit.

Intellectually I was able to understand that the rise in the numbers was natural and necessary…you can’t sit at 4% body fat and be healthy. Emotionally however it was quite as easy to understand…if felt unsettling.

At about 1 month post comp I decided to stop weighing myself all together. For probably one of the first times in my life I had absolutely no idea what I weighed. I ate clean and exercised and this felt good. Being free of the shackles of the scale was a freeing experience.

The competition prep started again…I honestly didn’t even think about stepping on the scale until my trainer made me.

The journey this time has been liberating and more clarifying than any before.

A truth that I always intellectually knew but was emotionally not able to 100% grasp (even though I came close) has finally set in.

Take a look at the two pictures below.

Picture 1: Me in July 2009:  128lbs

Picture 2: Me two days ago: 127lbs

Point made.

If you missed it let me make it more clear.

Pounds on a scale are not indicative of size of your body or composition.

Clearly in the first picture I look bigger and am softer in general than in picture two where I am carrying more muscle and leaner.

The number you see on that scale is not reflective of your health or fitness level.

So focus on eating clean and exercising…the scale might not change but you will.
