The Secret to My $15 Sexy Wardrobe
| It cracks me up when women spend all kinds of cash on clothing.
It makes me dizzy when I see Mom’s make $200 purchases on this seasons latest style because the ‘so-and-so’ expert in the ‘this-and-that’ magazine said it was going to be a hot look for the next 4 months. And that’s not because I don’t value fashion. I ADORE fashion. I am enthralled by fashion and the art of piecing together looks that represent my edgy personality and sexy outlook on life. But I do it my way. And the ‘My Way’ equation looks something like this: 1) Be Different: Not for difference sake, but because your clothes should be an expression of who you are and I just don’t buy the fact that we’re all the same… Even though by outward appearances, it certainly looks that way. 2) Be Unafraid: To match things that don’t seem to go together. To wear colors that aren’t seasonal. To experiment with different looks or fabrics. 3) Be Cheap: Spending insane amounts of money just isn’t necessary and certainly isn’t a precursor to being fashionable. Entire wardrobes can be given fresh looks and altered appearances by adding just a few, inexpensive elements of flair…. Hats would be an example of that. Why don’t more Moms wear hats? For $15 or less, the entire look of your outfit could change. Department store lingerie departments are a great place to pick up inexpensive tops. One time I picked up a long sleeve, red cotton, short spandex night-gown for a few dollars. I wear it in cold Chicago winters with black leggings, boots and a chain belt. It looks hot.
I’m not sure if anyone noticed that fashion comes and goes. It’s cyclical. What was worn in the ’60s made a comeback. Skirt lengths go up or down so as cc says, get your scissors and cut the long skirts short. Adding embellishments to a T-shirt gives it a new look! Beads and sequins make a great difference.
Fully agree that one does not need to break the bank to look great. However there are times when the occasion does call for a special dress. When my son got married, I bought a lovely gown ( about USD310.00). You can see it in my blog http://bubblyluv.blogspot.com It’s a shimmering lilac.
I think people don’t know how to make inexpensive look like a million bucks. I recently met some friends at Decca 77 and when I walked in my friends jaw dropped and stayed that way fora bout 10 minutes. The joke was on her – cause I was wearing a 20 dollar dress I bought at WALMART – and I looked and felt like a million bucks. That day a man cycled past me on Mansfield street in downtown Montreal, and said hey sexy lady – and you know it don’t you?
Goes to show you – it’s the confidence you wear it with, and the ideas that you use to pull the look together.
I do that with my wardrobe and with the homes I restyle!
